Our Horseback Riding lesson learning levels

Learning Level Description

RISING RIDER LEVEL – RAINBOW

RISING RIDER LEVEL – RAINBOW

RISING RIDER LEVEL – RAINBOW

The Rainbow Level is an introductory level for young riders aged 6 through 8, who are not yet able to ride and care for a pony independently. Rainbow Level riders should always practice their skills with the supervision and assistance of an instructor!  Rainbow Level riders ride on the leadline, or with a “Ground Buddy” walking close by, to ensure their safety and control. They may require help with tasks such as leading and grooming, as well as the simple reading and writing required to complete the Level.

Red Horsemanship Objectives

RISING RIDER LEVEL – RAINBOW

RISING RIDER LEVEL – RAINBOW

The Red Horsemanship Level is an introductory level, designed to give students a safe overview of basic mounted and unmounted skills. Red Level is appropriate for all students age 8 and up, including returning riders who want to refresh their basics as well as those with no prior horse experience. Our goal is for Red Level students to come away from their initial lessons with a balanced seat, an appreciation for the horse/human relationship, an understanding of basic terminology, and most importantly, a desire to continue their equine education. This guide will take you through each of the required objectives for Red Level Horsemanship, explaining them in further detail, as well as offering helpful hints and activities for accelerating your progress.

Red HorseSense Objectives

RISING RIDER LEVEL – RAINBOW

Red HorseSense Objectives

The Red Level is the first unmounted level for students with little or no experience working around and with horses. This guide will take you through each of the required objectives for Red Level HorseSense, explaining them in further detail, as well as offering helpful hints and activities for accelerating your progress. Whether you have just taken your first lesson or have spent years around horses, we hope you find this guide to be informative and helpful as you journey towards becoming a well-rounded horseperson.   It’s not enough, in our view, to be able to ride a horse: truly effective horsemanship requires that riders understand and attend to their horse’s basic needs. That means learning how horses are put together, what makes them behave in certain ways, and how to keep them happy and healthy.
